Manufacture of Corridor Pipework Modules for Maplewood Primary School, Sunderland
Having secured the order for the M&E services installation at Maplewood Primary School, VEL Newcastle were keen to modularise the corridor distribution heating and plumbing services pipework, along with the electrical basket containment, to minimise on–site installation time and to reduce the likelihood of theft.
The services pipework had to meet the requirement of Sunderland City Council, which necessitated the installation of BS 1387 screwed steel tube and fittings for heating distribution and soldered copper tube and fittings for plumbing distribution pipework.
The modules were designed to carry the services within the constraints of a 64m long corridor ceiling void, from which it was necessary to co–ordinate services branches to each adjoining room or space.
Mocked up module sections were manufactured in Broxburn, to an agreed, co–ordinated design, before committing to full assembly and construction. All 12 modules, carrying 360m of pressure tested, insulated and labelled pipework and 144m of cable support basket, were completed, ready for shipping to site, within 9 days of commencement and 11 days later the final module was hoisted into position, complete.
